After five weeks of tests and months of anxious waiting, GCSE results day is nearly here. Here is everything you need to know about how to get you results
When are GCSE results released?
This year, GCSE results day falls on Thursday 24 August, just one week after A-level students found out their grades.
Many sixth form and college students were let down by their results, as some 19,000 university applicants failed the grades they needed to get their choice of school.
And, according to Professor Alan Smithers, director of the Centre for Education and Employment Research (CEER) at the University of Buckingham, GCSE students may face similar disappointment.
Prof Smithers said: ‘The restoration of the 2019 grade pattern in England will result in another record drop in top GCSE grades as the profligacy of teacher assessment is reversed.
‘Although the changes as percentages may not look much, given the huge number of entries, they amount to a substantial drop of some 300,000 top grades.

What time will GCSE results be out?
Generally, results are made available to collect from schools at around 8am, but you should confirm with your institution and teachers to confirm how and when to get your grades.
Students do not normally need to bring ID for collection, though some schools may suggest this.
How do I receive my GCSE results?
While many pupils will collect their results in person, some schools send their grades out by email or post.
If you’re on holiday when GCSE grades are released, the school may offer the option for results to be received by email.
Alternatively, many schools will allow a family member or guardian to pick the envelope up on the student’s behalf.
If students don’t get the results they expected, teachers will be at the ready to help them contact their sixth form or college to discuss their next step, or for information on how to resit exams.
