FIA ‘to impose new test’ amid Red Bull and Mercedes feud | F1 | Sport

To achieve this, they plan to implement a new generation of cars in order to generate downforce.

In recent races Red Bull have suggested the silver arrows’ rear wing was flexing, allowing for reduced drag down the straights and therefore a higher top speed.

In order to address this, rear wing testing was implemented at the Qatar GP, but according to Auto Motor und Sport’s Michael Schmidt, that test was only experimental.

He added that the test at the final two races of the season in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi would not be present, much to their dismay.

However, designers may look to build as much flexibility into their cars as possible, which is why rear wing testing will be compulsory at every circuit from 2022 onwards.
