After two seasons, Stroll switched to Racing Point in 2019 after a consortium fronted by his billionaire businessman father acquired the team. Two years later, they rebranded to Aston Martin.
Across seven seasons, Stroll has just three podium finishes and none since 2020. But, because of the unique nature of his contract compared to the rest of the paddock, his place remains safe.
His agreement with the team is on a rolling basis rather than over a fixed term. Therefore, The Race has previously claimed he is only likely to leave by his own accord due to his familial ties to the top.
That faith is getting a test this season as teammate Fernando Alonso is outperforming him. Stroll’s highest finish was fourth in Australia, while the Spaniard has seven podium finishes.
The trend continued after the summer shutdown. Alonso came second behind Max Verstappen, with Stroll down in 11th and out of the points for the third time this year.
