Luis Rubiales Selling £1.2M Home Due to Rising Legal Fees from ‘Kissgate’ Controversy

Report ‘Luis Rubiales Selling £1.2M Home Due to Rising Legal Fees from ‘Kissgate’ Controversy’ Luis Rubiales, the former head of the Spanish Football Federation, has put his upscale apartment in Madrid on the market amid the controversy surrounding the “kiss-gate” scandal.

After Spain’s victory in the Women’s World Cup final and the ensuing controversial kiss with Jenni Hermoso, the 46-year-old resigned from his position as RFEF president three weeks later. Facing mounting pressure to step down, Rubiales confirmed his resignation in an interview with Piers Morgan.

Now, a week following his resignation, Rubiales is selling his Spanish mansion worth £1.2 million due to increasing legal expenses and financial obligations towards his ex-wife and children, as reported by The Sun. Rubiales, who separated from his wife in 2013, is reportedly required to pay €800 per month for each of his three daughters.

Rubiales initially purchased the fully renovated luxury property for £1.1 million and may make a modest profit, according to La Vanguardia. The flat features two floors with two bedrooms, a private pool with access to communal gardens, a cinema, a gym, and a community pool.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Hermoso had filed a legal complaint against Rubiales regarding the post-match kiss after Spain’s 1-0 win over England. Prosecutors provided Hermoso with a 15-day window to formally accuse Rubiales of sexual assault, and she has since filed the complaint in person at the Spanish State Prosecution Service HQ in Madrid.

At the time when the interview with Morgan was made public, Rubiales posted a tweet: “Good night. Today, at 9:30 p.m., I communicated my resignation from the position of President of the RFEF to the acting President, Mr. Pedro Rocha.

“I also informed that I have stepped down from my position at UEFA to allow for a replacement in the Vice Presidency. Given the swift suspension by FIFA and the ongoing legal actions against me, it’s clear that I won’t be able to resume my position.

“Persisting and holding on won’t contribute anything positive, neither to the Federation nor to Spanish football. Primarily because there are de facto powers that will hinder me. There’s my team’s management and, above all, the happiness I’ve had during my privileged tenure of over 5 years at the helm of the RFEF.

“I don’t want Spanish football to suffer. This entire campaign has been so exaggerated, and, above all, I make this decision after ensuring that my departure will foster stability, allowing Europe and Africa to stay united in the 2030 dream. This will enable our country to host the world’s biggest event.

“I need to look forward, toward the future. There’s something I’m deeply concerned about now. I believe in the truth and will do everything in my power to uphold it. My daughters, my family, and those who care about me have endured the effects of excessive persecution and many falsehoods. However, it’s also true that on the streets, every day, the truth is gaining more ground.

“From here, I send a heartfelt message to all the workers, assembly members, federations, and everyone involved in football, wishing you the best of luck. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during these challenging times. Luis Manuel Rubiales Bejar.”
